Planning Your Stay

When is the best time to visit North Bali?
+

North Bali enjoys a tropical climate with warm temperatures year-round, typically between 27°C and 33°C at sea level. The dry season, from April to October, is generally considered the ideal time to visit, with clear skies and calm seas perfect for diving and excursions. The wet season, from November to March, brings short afternoon showers, but these rarely disrupt your stay — the resort remains fully operational, retreats run as normal, and our forest and gardens are at their most lush and vivid during this period.

How far in advance should I book?
+

We recommend booking as early as you can, particularly for retreats and stays during the dry season, when availability fills quickly. For hosted group retreats and events, we suggest reaching out several months ahead so we can tailor everything to your dates.

Is Zen suitable for solo travellers?
+

Very much so — solo travellers are a significant part of our community, and many find that travelling alone is exactly what makes the experience so meaningful. The natural rhythm of our daily group practices — yoga, meditation, and shared meals — means you'll never feel isolated, while our team offers attentive, personalised care from the moment you arrive. Many of our most memorable guest stories come from those who arrived alone.

Do you welcome children and families?
+

Yes — children and families are warmly welcome at Zen. The peaceful, natural setting is a wonderful place for families to slow down and spend time together, and our team is happy to help make younger guests feel at home. If you're travelling with children, let us know when you enquire and we'll advise on the best villas and arrangements for your family.

Can Zen accommodate guests with accessibility needs?
+

Our resort is set across a natural hillside, with gardens, forest paths, and steps throughout the grounds. Accessibility varies from area to area, so we'd encourage you to tell us about your specific needs when you enquire — our team will be glad to talk you through what we can offer and help you decide whether Zen is the right fit for your stay.

Is there anything I should know about travelling to North Bali for the first time?
+

North Bali is quieter and more rural than the south, which is part of its charm. Mobile signal can be intermittent through the mountain pass, so we recommend downloading an offline map before you travel. Once you arrive, our team will be on hand to help you settle in and answer any questions about the area.

Your Wellness Experience

What is included in a retreat package?
+

Our all-inclusive retreat packages typically include your accommodation, full-board meals, daily group yoga and meditation, selected wellness treatments, and airport transfers. Specific inclusions vary by programme, and some experiences and excursions are included in select retreats — the details are listed on each retreat page, or our team can talk you through them.

Can you cater to dietary requirements?
+

Absolutely. Our kitchen is vegetarian-first and plant-forward, and we happily accommodate vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary needs, as well as allergies. There is always a fish or chicken option available. Please let us know your requirements in advance so our chef can prepare for your arrival.

Is alcohol available?
+

Yes — alcohol is available at our pool bar and with meals, though many of our guests choose not to drink during their stay, and the choice is entirely yours

Accommodation & Facilities

Is Wi-Fi available?
+

Yes, Wi-Fi is available throughout the resort. That said, we gently invite you to view Zen as a place to disconnect from the digital world and settle into the quiet rhythm of North Bali.

Are the villas air-conditioned?
+

Yes — all of our villas are air-conditioned for your comfort.

Is laundry available?
+

Yes, a laundry service is available during your stay. Pricing depends on the items, and our team will be glad to share the details when you arrive.

Do you have a swimming pool?
+

Yes. Our central infinity pool overlooks the Bali Sea, and guests are also welcome to bathe in the natural spring-fed pools within our forest.

Getting Here & Around

How do I get to Zen from the airport?
+

Zen is approximately a 3 to 3.5-hour drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), through Bali's central highlands. We recommend our private chauffeur service, which is included in our all-inclusive retreat packages. Full details are on our Travelling to Zen page.

Do I need to rent a car or scooter?
+

No — you don't need your own transport to enjoy your stay. Our team arranges all excursions and transfers, and everything you need is within the resort. If you'd like to explore independently, we're happy to advise.

Is laundry available?
+

Yes, a laundry service is available during your stay. Pricing depends on the items, and our team will be glad to share the details when you arrive.

Can you arrange excursions and experiences during my stay?
+

Yes. From sunrise dolphin sails and waterfall treks to sacred ceremonies and cooking classes, our reception team can arrange a wide range of experiences. Some are complimentary, some are included in select retreats, and others can be arranged for an additional cost. You can see the full range on our Experiences page.

Practical Matters

What should I pack?
+

Loose, comfortable clothing for yoga and the tropical climate, modest attire for temple visits (covered shoulders and knees), swimwear, sun protection, mosquito repellent, and a light layer for the cooler mountain drive. For forest walks, we recommend closed shoes — though we also provide a hat and other essentials in your room.

Do I need a visa to visit Indonesia?
+

Most visitors can enter Indonesia on a visa on arrival or an e-visa, but requirements vary by nationality and change from time to time. Please check the current rules for your country with your nearest Indonesian embassy or the official Indonesian immigration website before you travel.

What currency is used, and can I pay by card?
+

The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). We accept both card and cash payments at the resort. We'd still recommend carrying some cash for smaller purchases and when travelling outside the resort, as rural North Bali has more limited card facilities and ATMs.

Is North Bali safe?
+

North Bali is a quiet, rural, and welcoming part of the island, known for its genuine hospitality. As anywhere, we recommend the usual sensible precautions, and our team is always on hand to help you feel comfortable and looked after throughout your stay.
